Step by Step to request the social tariff: discount on the electricity bill

The rising cost of electricity is a serious problem for the finances of most Brazilian families, and for this very reason we will teach you step-by-step how to solve this problem and obtain the benefit of the Social Tariff , which offers significant discounts on your electricity bill. In addition to the tutorial, we will also explain in detail how the discounts work and the other benefits provided by the social program. Check it out!

Criteria for obtaining the benefit of reduced electricity costs

To be approved for the Social Electricity Tariff program, your family must already be registered in the (CadÚnico) Single Registry for Social Programs of the Government. In addition, your monthly energy consumption must not exceed 220 kWh.

It's also important that your family's per capita income is within the limit of up to half the minimum wage per person ( R$706 per capita) . Or that they are beneficiaries of the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC) . And if you happen to already be participating in programs like Bolsa Família, you will have even greater chances of being approved!

It is worth noting that individuals who are disabled or elderly individuals aged 65 or older may also receive the BPC and be entitled to this program.

How does the reduction in electricity rates work?

The Social Tariff features a tiered discount schedule. In other words, the price reductions will be scaled according to your consumption. If you consume up to 30 kWh per month , the discount will be 65% .

If your consumption is between 31 and 100 kWh , your discount will be 40% .

But if you have high consumption between 101 and 220 kWh , the discount will only be 10%.

In short, you will see a reduction of between 10% and 65% depending on the amount of energy consumed; that is, if you don't waste energy, you can get even better discounts.

One of the state's objectives is to provide assistance to those in need while simultaneously contributing to awareness, encouraging both the economy and the environment.

The benefit is intended for all Brazilian states because it is a federal program. That is, regardless of your state, you can request your benefit through CRAS closer to your residence. The procedure is quite simple, just follow our step by step in the following topics.

1-First, you need to make sure you meet the list of requirements mentioned above. You must be registered in the Unified Registry (CADÚnico) or be receiving the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC), in addition to having a per capita income of up to half the minimum wage.

2- Once these prerequisites are met, you can visit any Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) and request your Social Tariff benefit through their service. Remember that you will need to bring all your documentation (ID, CPF, NIS, Birth Certificate, photo ID, and proof of address).

3- You can also access the official government website for more information and to find details about the locations of Social Assistance Reference Centers. You can also apply for registration there.

4- After completing your registration, the utility company will review your documents and, if approved, you will receive discounts on your next electricity bills, with reductions ranging from 10% to 65%.
