Files received on WhatsApp often remain on the phone, even after the conversation disappears.
Where are the files located?
On Android, WhatsApp saves media in its own folder, separate from conversations.
Deleting the conversation doesn't always delete the files in that folder.
Look in the media folder
Start here, because the files will be restored in their original quality.
Documents are stored in WhatsApp Documents, and sent music is stored in WhatsApp Audio.
Tap Browse, then tap Internal Storage.
Go to Android > media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Media.
Photos are stored in WhatsApp Images, videos in WhatsApp Video, and audio files in WhatsApp Voice Notes.
Tap the file, open the menu, and copy it to another folder or upload it to the cloud.

If WhatsApp folder backup was enabled, there may be a copy in the cloud.
Open the Library and look for the WhatsApp Images album.
Deleted items remain there for up to 60 days, when they were backed up.
If nothing appears

Check the size of each image found. Very small ones are usually thumbnails.

Turn on WhatsApp's daily backup and include videos if you have enough cloud storage space.

If the "Save to Camera Roll" option was turned on, look in the Photos app and then in Recently Deleted.
Why does it say "media not available"?
The file was sent from the phone and is no longer on the server. Please ask them to resend it.
